about
"Rise" is the first song I wrote after I finally felt free and clear of the pain from the divorce. It's a rap, obviously, my first ever attempt at it. The whole point of the song is to tell a bit of a story about how miserable she made my life, but the chorus is this gigantic wall of hope - love can break you and cripple you and beat you, but it can never kill you and it can never defeat you if you hold on to hope. There is always, always hope no matter how dark things may seem.
lyrics
It falls apart
Your heart to pain
The sun will rise
You will breathe again
I thought I had it all
Figured out, problem solved
Had the girl, had the world
Didn't matter what was wrong
When I looked down at my hand
And I saw the ring was on
See the issues disappear
I wouldn't be around for long
So long, I ain't coming back guys
I'm moving on
That's what I was saying for months
Until she proved me wrong
Everything she said in my past?
Forget it - gone is gone
Remove the thorn, fuck the pain
You know the words, sing along
It falls apart
Your heart to pain
The sun will rise
You will breathe again
When you come back to nothing
Nothing is what you got
When you have nobody
All you can do is sit and rot
Curtains drawn, people calling
Checking in, "is something wrong?"
Yeah there's fucking something wrong
I've been dead since she's been gone
What I did or didn't do
I'll never know just what was true
Maybe I just fucked it all up
Without saying a word
But things I haven't heard
Can't hurt me now
Because I'm moving on
I see the sun coming up behind the clouds
It falls apart
Your heart to pain
The sun will rise
You will breathe again
